The Sazerac is a classic New Orleans cocktail made with rye whiskey, Peychaud’s bitters, sugar, and an absinthe rinse, served in a chilled Old Fashioned glass with a lemon peel garnish. It’s known as one of the oldest American cocktails, traditionally prepared by muddling sugar and bitters, adding whiskey and ice, and then straining into a glass rinsed with absinthe or Herbsaint.
